Well it's almost the end of the month. That means it will be time to do another mad dash to all four locations that carry my paintings and move them around. It's hard work, but someone has to do it as they say.
Actually, the St. Augustine Art Association has a show coming up called the "Black, White and Shades of Gray" show. Meaning NO color in the works! That should be interesting. I wasn't going to enter that show, but I have changed my mind. The problem is that I only have a few days to do my painting for it!! I have a photo of the large harvest moon over the water with clouds and I really want to give it a try. I will work on it and see how it comes out. The entries have to be submitted by next Tuesday. That is when I will know if it is good enough for me to submit: if i like it or not.
I have started my Chile' painting of the water and volcano but it's not done. I just haven't had time to give it justice. You see, I have had family visiting this whole week. Six of them to be exact. Love them all, but every day is hectic to say the least.
Also, I have been encouraging friends to vote for my "FLORIDA PANTHER" painting that is on display at the beach Art Studio. I took all six of the family out to "do their duty" and vote. All was going well until my 5 yr old great-niece looked at me with her hands on her hips and said "Aunt Dara, I like the mermaid painting the best! I want to vote for her!" Oh well, beggars can't be choosers. She voted for her mermaid. Out of the mouth of babes....humbling to say the least! The votes will be added up this Saturday, the 31st, and winners will be announced. Six prizes are up for grabs. I will probably lose by one vote, HAHA!!!!! (Sorry about that)
A few days later I took my husband out to vote, telling him he HAD to vote for me. (haha) As he was writing out his ballot, the lady in charge saw his name and asked "Oh, are you Dara Dodson?"
When i answered yes, she pointed to a man over in the corner who was writing something and said
"That man is writing you a letter! You need to go talk to him!" Not sure what was going on, I walked over to him and introduced myself. He shook my hand and began telling me that one of my paintings had moved him so much he had to tell me about it. He had just come back into town after being away for some time and met up with a lady he had known 30 years ago. He found out that she had his son who was 29 now and he had never known. That day the sunrise was beautiful and looked much like my painting. I don't know whether he bought the painting or not, we had to leave. Hopefully he did. But that is what art is all about. It moves people emotionally. At least that is what we strive for. So, put your heart into your work and maybe you will move someone too! I have a picture of this painting below. Enjoy! and Thanks for looking! Hopefully next week I will have two new paintings to post for you!!
