SELLING ON SOCIAL MEDIA
A week or so ago, I spent two hours photographing my paintings to post them on eBay. Not all of them, the "Scenes of St. Augustine" Series will not be put up on eBay. Those will stay at the local restaurants for the tourists and locals to buy. They are popular and I am running low on them, so I must get busy and paint some more! But I am also painting more of my "PYSCHEDELIC PALMS" with the different color backgrounds as suggested by my workshop instructor. I had gone to the craft store and purchased several 16 x 20 canvas boards, but I will be returning to exchange them for 11 x 14's, I need more! He said that 11 x 14 is the perfect size for the tourist trade because they are large enough for presence but small enough to fit nicely into a suitcase. Now, why didn't I think of that? I had been doing a lot of 8 x 10's. Not any more!
I digress, sorry. I am glad I took two or three photos of each painting. They looked good on the camera screen, but up on my larger computer many were crooked, faded, or had reflections. But I did manage to get at least one good photo of each one. The hardest by far are the ones behind glass. I only have one painting behind glass. That is not normal. But this one is different than normal. It is a triptych (three) of Florida seascapes. Each is painted on a panel and mounted behind a triple holed mat, then framed. It is really cute and I call it "FLORIDA'S THREE SEASONS" Below each painting I have the season. "Sunshine" "Stormy" and "Sundown" Everyone loves it! I will post a photo of it below.
I will price my paintings very reasonably as I have a backlog of them for the Art Walk and I want to reduce my inventory. They are all small, 5 x 7 or 8 x 10, so shipping won't be a problem either. I do have a couple larger ones, but they are not really heavy. I will let you know how it goes as I post them. Of course I will only post a few each week. I don't think I could keep up with posting them all at once. Here again, like I said, good photos are very important. An interesting point is that most people buy art for the colors in them. So if the photo isn't sharp, they cannot tell the colors clearly. And speaking of colors, BLUE is far and away the most popular color for a painting! Have I told you that before?
I also posted previously of finding a way to set your artwork apart from others and if you do then stick with it. Well, I ended up doing six different backgrounds of the "PSYCHEDELIC PALMS". I then posted them on INSTAGRAM and FACEBOOK. Each one is 11 x 14 and could be purchased individually or as a set of 3, 4, or 6. Within an hour a person purchased all 6 as a set! I mailed them off to Kansas City this morning! WOW! So, maybe I have hit on my ticket? Anyway, they are fun and very colorful, very similar to Andy Warhol. If you aren't familiar with him, look him up on Google. He became famous for what is known as pop-art. He painted mostly people. I, on the other hand, want to do anything BUT people. I won't copy those 6 original paintings exactly, but I WILL do more very similar and even widen out in the subjects I tackle with this method. Of course, I have a picture of them below. Next I will do several on one canvas that is a gallery wrap. I want to see if that works as well as the individual canvases do.
