Hello! Well, it has been a very busy week for me. I had to pick up paintings like I mentioned before and I dropped off as well. Plus, I am trying to get back into the swing of painting daily or almost daily.
It has been harder than I thought it would be. After being on a trip for two weeks ( and thus not painting), I felt stiff and out of sorts with my art, almost like I had lost my touch. I actually was painting for several hours, practically the whole day before I felt comfortable again! It just drives home the point to me, and hopefully you, that we need to paint daily in order to improve in our art!
Even if it is just for a few minutes.
Ok, well, I did flounder for a day and now I seem to be back on track, thank goodness. I did manage to produce a few pieces for the new show at the Art Association. It is called the "Black, White & Shades of Gray" show. In other words, NO color allowed! So, I did two pencil sketches and one painting. All smaller. 8 x 10 and 9 x 12. I took them down this afternoon and I took three to the beach Art Studio as well. Speaking of the beach Art Studio...they were having the "People's Choice" awards in December...I won one of the prizes! It was for my "FLORIDA PANTHER" painting! It wasn't first place, but I am happy! Any award is always good for the resume!
Ok, now for the paintings I managed to squeak out. Probably won't win anything, but it's always good to put your work out to be seen. Even if you don't think it's your best work, someone else may fall in love and decide they can't live without it! So...GO FOR IT!!!!
I also did a small painting in class this morning from a photo of a bait shop off SR 206 at the beach here in St. Augustine. I changed the color of the building from blue to orange because I wanted to design the painting according to the color wheel. In other words, I chose the color scheme before I started. I limited the colors and used the complementary colors (opposite on the color wheel) of blue and orange as the main colors. Green is in there as well, but green is the combination of blue and yellow. Designing paintings this way makes for a very attractive painting! I will go into that more next week, ok? Anyway, the paintings are below. Enjoy!
BTW, I am still working on the landscape of the Irish countryside. I just had to set it aside for a few days while I worked on the three below. I have worked on it some and will finish it by next week.
( Let me add a disclaimer here...these are photos and as such the colors do not always come out true. Meaning they look somewhat faded or not as brilliant as they are in real life. I wish I could do something about that, but I can't afford a professional photographer yet. Oh well..)
